When he was seventeen, he entered the Seminary in Mondoñedo and when he left it in 1936, he worked as a teacher of Secondary Education in Vilagarcía de Arousa (Pontevedra). After taking a degree in Philosophy and Arts (1948, he moved to Madrid, where he combined teaching with translation in the Home Office. He also worked at the Institute of Hispanic Culture and the Scientific Council.

 Work & Activities

He wrote his first poems when he was twelve and he published his first poem when he was sixteen in the magazine 'Lluvia de rosas' (Tarragona), where he collaborated. In Madrid he published poems in the magazine 'Alba'. His poems appeared in the fourth volume of the work Escolma da poesía galega (1955) by Francisco Fernández del Riego. He also published poems, criticism articles and essays in newspapers of Vilalba, Mondoñedo, Viveiro, Lugo, Pamplona, Vigo and the magazines 'Estafeta literaria' and 'Ínsula' (Madrid). In 1946, he published Nascida dun sono and El cántico de la ciudad. In 1961, he published Nimbos, his most important book. He also published translations from European poets and prose writers into Galician and Spanish as well as many poems and the books Sombra radiante and Mediodía.

 Other Interesting Aspects

His poem Penélope was translated into French in the antohology Terre d'Espagne by Francoise Pechère and there is a critical reference to his work in the German magazine 'Humboldt'. In 1946, he was awarded the first Galician and Spanish Poetry Prizes in the Floral Games of Betanzos (A Coruña).
