He was the youngest of ten brothers. His father taught them Latin and humanist education, which would be later reflected in his work. When their parents died, he emigrated to Cuba at the beginning of 1907, where some of his brothers lived. In La Havana, he met Basilio Álvarez, whose ideas deeply impressed him, and joined the agrarian reform movement. In 1922 he moved to Ourense and became the sub-editor of La Zarpa, which was founded by Basilio Álvarez. He took part in the Assemblies of Irmandades da Fala that were celebrated in Lugo (1918), Compostela (1919), Vigo (1921) and Monforte (1922). In 1926, he married Julia Sánchez Novoa in Vigo. Due to his political activity, which was opposed to the government of that time, he was murdered in 1936.

 Work & Activities

As far as his literary production is concerned, Orballo da media noite (1929) was his only work. However, he also published a poem titled Anacos in the magazine Suevia (Cuba, 1910). Besides, during his collaboration in the newspaper A Nosa Terra, he published some poems such as Panteística, Diante da Natureza, A Manuel Antonio (because of his death) and some articles about literary criticism. The rest of his production was related to Journalism and he did an excellent work. His first article was published in Vigo in the newspaper El Noticiero. In Cuba, he collaborated in the most important magazines and newspapers of emigration such as Follas Novas, Galicia, Galicia Gráfica, Santos e Meigas, Suevia and Eco de Galicia. When he came back to Galicia again in 1916 he continued his journalistic production collaborating in the newspapers El Ideal Gallego, Gaceta de Galicia and Vida Gallega. Between 1917 and 1931 he collaborated in A Nosa Terra and published articles about politics.

The Galician Academy dedicated him O Día das Letras Galegas (The Day of the Galcian Letters) in 1999.
