He is a lawyer and exercised his profession until 1993. Aurelio Miras got in touch with politics when he became provincial deputy (1979 - 1987) and autonomic deputy (1981 - 1997). He was the president of the Agriculture Commission in the Galician Parliament and spokesman of the 'PPdeG' during the session 1981-1985. During this period he was also spokesman of the following Commissions: Agriculture, Cattle raising and Mounts; Territory development, Public Works and Housing; Industry, Trade and Tourism, and Culture. He took part as rapporteur in several legal texts such as Ley de Normalización Lingüística, Ley de Símbolos de Galicia, Ley de Patrimonio de la Comunidad Autónoma, Ley de creación del IGVS, Ley de Montes Veciñais en Man Común and Ley del Suelo de Galicia. He is an important member of the 'PPdeG' executive committee. From 1993 to 1997, he was the secretary of the Area of Galician People Abroad. In 1997, he became director general of Tourism in the 'Consellería de Cultura' and nowadays he is responsible for the 'Consellería de Emigración e Cooperación Exterior' (Emigration and External Cooperation).
